Cup tilt begins for Carter’s rocket

One of the sport’s exciting sprinters Music Event makes his Sandown Park debut in the opening TAB Melbourne Cup Prelude on Thursday night.

Music Event started his career in blazing style having won 9 of his 16 starts. Fast wins at The Meadows recently has seen him firm into a $17 chance in the TAB Melbourne Cup market alongside elite sprinters Christo Bale, Tiggerlong Tonk and Tommy Shelby.

His emergence has come as no surprise to his trainer Mick Carter who snared $101 when Music Event’s price when first included in the pre-nomination market.

“He’s got a target, one target,” said Carter with eyes on the world’s greatest greyhound race.

Music Event has drawn box 1 in his biggest assignment of his career to date in what will be his first visit to the track.

“I’m pleased he’s drawn the red. It will be his first look there but I’m not concerned, I expect him to handle Sandown.

“He’s a fast animal, as long as he begins he’s as quick as any down the back.”

Carter also has Special Talent who has drawn box 8 and is the second pick in the market behind his more favoured kennelmate.

“The draw isn’t ideal as he prefers the inside. I was surprised how well he went on Saturday (at The Meadows) as I felt he was underdone – he’ll be better for it.”

They meet Get It Gizmo who returns to race at Sandown Park for the first time since last year’s TAB Melbourne Cup final. He’s fit and ready after a hot trial – click here for more.
