Jesaulenko set for fourth Cup campaign

One of greyhound racing’s most popular chasers Jesaulenko will begin his fourth TAB Melbourne Cup campaign this Thursday in Prelude Series 3.

It is a fantastic feat that comes weeks after the veteran’s 5th birthday.

“It’s amazing that he can do it, because there’s not many who have been to achieve that. He’s just enjoying it and is as sound as ever,” explained trainer, owner and breeder Terri Morris (pictured with Jesaulenko after winning last year’s Cup Night Sprint).

His old legs are not showing any signs of ageing after an impressive trial at Warragul last week in preparation for the penultimate Prelude Series.

“I trialed him at Warragul recently and his first split was 8.19 – that’s unheard of. He’s on target and going well.

“Not much has changed, he’s still doing everything he was doing three years ago. He may have slowed down a little bit but he doesn’t show it very often. He’s probably gotten smarter as he’s gotten older.”

Jesaulenko was announced retired in May then made a famous comeback in late August. He’s had five starts since returning and has missed a place once.

He’s an eight time group race finalist and was runner-up behind Ando’s Mac in the 2016 TAB Melbourne Cup.
