Onwards and upwards for Thompson treble

Jason Thompson brought three greyhounds to Sandown Park last night and went home with three winners.

And the punters didn’t miss with Aston Chandon ($2.10), Spring Bridge ($1.60) and Midnight Dare ($1.30) all starting short favourites when recording impressive victories.

Here’s what Thompson had to say about each of his three winners.

Aston Chandon (box 1)

“She’s handy. She’s pretty strong, probably got to get her over 600m. 5.15 is about as quick as she can run to the winning post so she’s not going to figure in too many sprint races running that. We’ll work her through her grades and get her up to 600m and get her through the grades there and see where she’s at after that.”

Spring Bridge (box 8)

“A very, very good dog. If he can stay sound I want to get him into the Speed Star, he’s probably the quickest dog we have at home. Before he came back to racing he trialled 21.60 at Shepparton and 25.23 at Warragul so he’s going pretty good. He had seven months so he needed a bit of batting practice and he’s had that now so he’s ready to go.”

Midnight Dare (box 6)

“A good win. She probably got tossed around a bit early, might have lost maybe four lengths from the boxes to the winning post just being pushed out wide. It was a good win for her and probably what she needed after the last couple where she just had no luck. She’s only had 10 starts and with the dogs drawn around her and the box that she had, she was avoiding the trouble. She’s getting better with experience”

It was a good night for trainers in the City Of Casey with Thompson combining with Glenn Rounds, Steve Collins, Tony Cortese and Peter Presutto to lead home eight winners on the card.

Perhaps the most impressive of the night was the win by Rounds’ youngster Waging War. Lining up for start number 9, the 22 month old pup recorded a dazzling six length victory in 29.394 and vaulted to sixth on the Speed Star leader board.
