Countdown is on to Cup heats

The countdown is on for Friday night’s heats of the TAB Melbourne Cup.

We’ll see eight heats of the world’s greatest greyhound race and only winners advance to next Friday’s $500,000 to-the-winner final.

“It’s a night every racing fan looks forward to, there’s nothing better than seeing the stars step out with a place in the sport’s greatest race up for grabs,” said Neil Brown, Chairman of Sandown Greyhounds.

Aston Rupee is the favourite to win the TAB Melbourne Cup and has come up with box 3 in heat 4 and will face Australian Cup runner-up Fernando Bluey.

“He’s clearly the fastest greyhound in the country and his Shootout win last Thursday was ultra impressive. He’s been the Cup favourite for some time now and deserves to be.”

Koblenz is the other of the leading contenders, he lines up in the opening heat and has drawn favourably in box 2 – he’s $1.40 with TAB to advance to the final.

Western Australian superstar Tommy Shelby will return to racing in heat 2, it will be his first start since August and while his preparation hasn’t been perfect the champion can’t be dismissed.

The card will kick off with four heats of the G1 Bold Trease for the stayers where the winner and runner-up will line up in next Friday’s final on Cup night. Click here for all of the feature events on Cup night.

You can catch wall-to-wall coverage of the heats live from the track on Sky Racing Active with Marc Ohlmus, Jason Lincoln and Jason Adams.
