The road to the TAB Melbourne Cup began last night with Broken Promise the most impressive performer of the opening Prelude series.
The win was arguably the biggest and best of his career as he accelerated early to lead and went on to win by 5½ lengths in a very sharp time of 29.29.
“His time doesn’t surprise me at all, when he leads he can run that,” said trainer Mick Carter post-race.
With the Prelude win Broken Promise is now guaranteed a run in the TAB Melbourne Cup heats on Friday November 22.
“This is the target. He didn’t get a run in the Maturity heats which I was disappointed about, but they can’t keep him out of this one. He’s got plenty of ability and deserves his spot.”
In the Prelude prior Keeper Of Keys did enough to hold out a very gallant Lady Emerald. The final Prelude of the night went to Weeona Bulldozer who was faultless holding off Avalanche and Western Envoy.
Greyhounds must compete in a Prelude to be eligible for heats of the world’s greatest race unless already an exemption race winner.
Prelude Series 2 – October 17
Prelude Series 3 – October 31
Prelude Series 4 – November 14
